    How the verdict works

    The world uses 15 socket types (lettered A to O) and two voltage families: roughly 100–127 V (the Americas, Japan, Taiwan) and 220–240 V (almost everywhere else). A plug adapter only changes the shape of your plug. A voltage converter changes the voltage. Phones, laptops and USB chargers are almost always dual voltage (look for INPUT 100–240V on the label), so they only ever need an adapter. Hair dryers, straighteners and kettles usually are not.
